Develop your oenology skills and master the art of wine tasting with the Franck Thomas method.

Wine tasting is an art that requires precision, sensitivity and expertise. This professional training programme, certified and eligible for CPF funding, enables you to refine your sensory and analytical skills while discovering the fundamentals of the world of wine.
Using the innovative method developed by Franck Thomas, Best Sommelier of Europe, this programme introduces you to intuitive, geo-sensory and analytical tasting, combining hands-on workshops with theoretical insights.

Duration: 6 days – 42 hours

Dates: From 9 to 25 April 2026 / From 4 to 20 June 2026

Schedule: 7 hours per day

Location: Institut Lyfe, Ecully, France

Number of participants: 6 to 10

Requirements: Have a professional project related to sommellerie or professional experience in the wine industry.

Fees : €1,990 incl. VAT (€1,658.33 excl. VAT)

Expected outcomes

  • Learn the three wine tasting techniques: intuitive, geo-sensory and analytical;
  • Understand the characteristics of different wine styles, their production methods, and the role of terroir;
  • Develop a precise and professional vocabulary to speak about wine, from sensory emotions to promotional language;
  • Identify key quality indicators for wines and spirits;
  • Be able to organise and lead wine tasting sessions.

  • Sommelier and hospitality professionals,

  • Anyone undergoing a career change who wishes to specialise in the world of wine and tasting.

Teaching methods

An immersive learning approach combining:

  • Theoretical input and guided tasting sessions,

  • Practical workshops and sensory analysis,

  • Case studies and group discussions.

The workshops are led by an expert sommelier trainer, and supported by an e-learning module to deepen the knowledge covered during the in-person sessions.

Validation and certification

This programme allows you to validate Block 1 of the Sommelier Caviste certification (RNCP 39204), certified by Franck Thomas Formation.

Assessment:

  • Wine tasting and promotional sheet,

  • Knowledge questionnaire,

  • Written exercise: creation of a menu and food & wine pairing for a specific occasion.

At the end of the programme, each participant receives a certificate of completion as well as a feedback questionnaire.
